Stroke & Heart Disease Risk Assessment

What is involved?

  • The visit involves a one hour counseling session with our physician devoted to detecting and treating cardiac and stroke risk factors
  • Review of family history
  • Blood pressure, weight, body composition, cholesterol  testing, diabetes screening (PreDx), and where indicated, assessment of atherosclerotic plaque load in the carotid (Carotid Intimal Medial Thickness Testing), heart and peripheral arteries.

 How do I prepare?

  • Allow one hour in your schedule for this exam
  • Bring your medication list & your home blood pressures, if asked
  • Bring a list of questions
  • Know your family history (parents, siblings, grandparents) of heart disease and stroke
  • Bring any cardiovascular testing results you may have from other physicians or work screening

Why is it important?

  • Heart disease and Stroke are the numbers one and three killers in the U.S. today.  Though internists, neurologists and cardiologists specialize in the treatment of such conditions, our aim is to detect the disease and treat its risk factors before a heart attack or stroke occurs.
